Launching NEW VASA High School Pathway:
A Certificate Pathway for SFUSD Juniors and Seniors!

Recruiting junior & senior students NOW!
In a partnership with the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) and the City College of San Francisco, we are pleased to announce the NEW VASA High School: A Certificate Pathway for SFUSD Juniors and Seniors. The two-course Certificate Program in Critical Pacific Islands & Oceania Studies will allow students to:
- Achieve a Certificate of Accomplishment from City College of San Francisco
- Fulfill major requirements for an Associates or Arts degree in Ethnic Studies and Critical Pacific Islands & Oceania Studies
- Receive credit towards high school graduation requirements
- Support with an educational map for transfer to a four-year university or vocational/technical trade
- Access mentorship opportunities with Pacific Islander/Oceania students, professionals, community leaders, and educators
- Get tutoring for high school core subjects
- Prepare for college with support on scholarship applications and personal statement development
- Connect to Pacific Islander/Oceania cultural resources

The NEW VASA High School Certificate Pathway is a collaboration between the SFUSD Fa’a Sāmoa Initiative, SFUSD NHPI Programming, SFUSD College and Career Readiness, CCSF VĀSĀ (Oceania) Student Success Program, Critical Pacific Islands & Oceania Studies, and the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Honoring Native American Heritage Month! |
|
|
On Saturday, November 5th, 2022 at Sanchez Elementary and Everett Middle School, SFUSD Indian Education hosted their Native Heritage Celebration! Congratulations to Indian Ed Team and Native community for a successful event! What a way to start the month! Yay! Over 100 SFUSD Educators, staff and students participated, and so many more community members and families coming from various parts of the Bay Area attended. There were workshops of Arts and Crafts, Sacred Ceremonies, Free Education resources, Native Vendors and plenty of delicious frybread! Fa'aSamoa Initiative team was honored be part of the the 7:30am volunteer set up crew and looking forward to future collaborations! On Tuesday, November 15th, 2022, marked a historical moment for our Pacific Islander community in the Bay Area and the city of San Francisco. At City Hall, SF Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve the designation of Visitacion Valley/Sunnydale neighborhood as the Pacific Islander Cultural Heritage District. Pictured here are many Pacific islander community members and supporters overjoyed of the decision, and ready for the next steps.

On Tuesday, November 15th during the SFUSD Board of Education meeting, African American Parent Advisory Council had their annual Board Presentation! Parents were able to share their journey from 2013, wins, areas of improvement and share their 2022 Goals & Priorities! Fa'aSamoa Initiative team would like to say, Thank you for all you do in community, in district, and congratulations and great job on your board presenation! We see YOU!
