It is STEM Time!

On March 12, 2022, Fa'aSamoa Initiative and Parents/Guardians from the Matua Advisory Council, Educators and students participated and sponsored the First Pacific Islander STEM Family Event, held at the huge LEVO Foundation in the Peninsula. Event organized by PIEFEST whose mission is dedicated to improving Pacific Islander representation and increasing access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) related careers.

There were 400 students and families registered for the event coming from as far as Sacramento, East Bay, San Jose and San Francisco!

From STEM Exibits, Sensory Play, PS5 station area, Legos, Robotics station, Pacific Islander community resources to raffle giveaways that included Ipads, Laptops and a PS5 for youth!

This was a true collective effort (businesses, educators, community based organizations, STEM scholars, Elected officials), the Pacific Islander way [It takes a Village]! Congratulations to PIEFEST for a successful event!

Asiasiga is a Samoan Cultural Practice visiting families, school sites, community organizations, and attending cultural/community neighborhood events. In the Samoan islands, asiasiga is also seen as a Samoan intervention to address the immediate mental health needs of the Samoan families after a natural disaster. The Fa'aSamoa Initative team upholds this practice in SFUSD!

In the month of March, Fa'aSamoa Initiative Team visits school sites and community organizations! Here are a few places we visited this month! Click on organization or school site for more information!
