February 2024 | In case you missed it
On Wednesday, Feb 21st, we ventured outside of the classroom to visit Samoan Community Development Center in Visitacion Valley! Shout outs to Safe passage team and Koreena Ortiz for facilitating an fun Scavenger Hunt for students with items and art around the center and centering our discussion around how representation matter! Shouts out to Mr. Coach Wylie for sharing stories of the importance of space and legends. First photo is of students doing a deep dive on the beautiful Mural by Artist Tracy Cook-Williams, PIYA participants, and community at large and second photo taken with SCDC's Executive Director Dr. Patsy Tito, Ms.Akesa, Ms.Jueng and Ms.Ursula! Amazing day out learning and meeting with community in Sunnydale/Visitacion Valley which is also the SF Pacific Islander Cultural District. Thank you SCDC for all you do and for hosting us! As Dr.Tito would always share, "The Sky is Blue."
